Biography
Hailing from Bridgend, Wales, Bullet For My Valentine have become one of the biggest acts out of the new crop of heavy metal bands, blending classic NWOBHM vibes with a contemporary, metalcore twist.
In the early 2000s, Bridgend, Wales was a furtive ground for metal and rock acts, producing Funeral For a Friend and Lostprophets, before Bullet For My Valentine came to the fore in 2004. Formed by school friends Matthew Tuck (vocals, guitar), Michael Padget (guitar, vocals), Jason James (bass, vocals) and Michael Thomas (drums), the band came together in 2003, out of the ashes of Jeff Killed John. Having established their sound, Bullet For my Valentine were signed to Visible Noise after their second gig, impressing with their refreshing take on the modern metal scene.
The band went into the studio, recording their self-titled EP in November 2004, a release that established their name in the rock and metal sphere, finding critical acclaim. Their debut album, “The Poison,” appeared the following year, before the band then signed to American label, Trustkill Records, who distributed their album in the US. Rounding out a successful year, the band were awarded with Kerrang!’s ‘Best British Newcomer Award,’ before they then embarked on a headline tour. Their debut album was released in America in 2006, which gained them a support slot for Rob Zombie on a nationwide tour. Sales for “The Poison” soon reached 500,000 copies in America alone, with Bullet For My Valentine returning to the UK to play a high profile slot at Download Festival.
In 2008, their second full-length arrived, “Scream Aim Fire,” which broke into the Top Ten in several countries (five in the UK and four in the US). After embarking on further tours, the band returned to the studio for their third effort, with “Fever” being released in 2010. Displaying a more mainstream sound, the album again travelled high up the charts, making Bullet For My Valentine one of the most popular metal acts of the day.
After this success, the band took a short break, whilst frontman Tucker recorded an album with his side project, AxeWound. Returning back to his original act, Bullet For My Valentine began work on their fourth record, with the result being “Temper Temper,” which hit the shelves in February 2013. The album continued to find Bullet For My Valentine commercial success, peaking at number 13 on the Billboard 200.
